Benna Girls Lose Group Opener at home to Bermuda

St. John’s, Antigua (August 18, 2023), In the Tier II, Group B match, Bermuda defeated Antigua and Barbuda 2-0 while playing at ABFA Technical Center.

 
The match started with great intensity with end to end action causing the spectators to be on their toes. Rolesha Humphreys of Antigua and Barbuda attempted to open the scoring in the 2nd minute but was saved by the alert keeper of Bermuda Semaj Baisden-Scott. Another shot was saved by Baisden- Scott in the 11th minute after a strike from Keitonya Skepple of the Benna Girls.

 

The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute with a brilliant strike by Cayli Dowling which eluded the fingers of Antigua and Barbuda’s custodian Alyssa Laviscount. The lead was extended in the 31st minute by an Avery Taylor strike. 
 
At the interval, Antigua and Barbuda were trailing Bermuda 2-0.
 
On the resumption of this intense encounter, the Benna Girls came out determined to get on the scoreboard but it was the brilliant defending of Miyari Trott and the wittiness of the goalkeeper that kept them at bay. The end to end action continued which resulted in a goalless second half.
 
Both teams displayed resilience and determination but it was the girls of Bermuda that came out victorious over Benna Girls with two first half goals.

 

 

SCIENCE UP DESTROYED ALLEY, GREEN CITY GRAB ANOTHER WIN

Green City FC grabbed their second win in a row and Science Up bounced back from a first game loss to destroy Alley in the Jennings Ebenezer Community Sports Club (JECSC) on Wednesday.

Green City, getting their second win in as many matches, emerged with a narrow victory over former first division competitors, Bolans FC by 1-0. Carlson Warner was on target for City.


Alley suffered their second loss in as many games, losing 3-1 to Demolition and now being demoralized by Science Up.

Science Up bounced back in fantastic fashion after a first game loss to Green City. They put eight (8) pass Alley on Wednesday night, the highest scoring game of the competition thus far.

Devonte Benjamin and Jean-Pierre Williams each enjoyed a hat-trick in the goal fest. Barrington Blake and Andy Watts each added a single strike in the encounter. In their next match-ups, Science Up will face strong opponents Demolition and Alley will face off with Bolans.

The league continues with matches today and onwards, starting from 5pm.

DEMOLITION AND GREEN CITY GRAB WINS TO KICK OFF JECSC LEAGUE

Green City FC and Demolition off to good start in the Jennings Ebenezer Community Sports Club (JECSC) on Monday.

Green City ran out 3-1 winners over Science Up. Nathan Smith, Range Williams and Joylan Sinclair all got on the scoresheet for the Bendals team. Galloway got the consolation goal for Science Up.

Demolition also enjoyed a 3-1 victory over their opponents Alley.

Kemon Samuel with a lone strike and Rakeem Henry with the brace sealed the deal for Demolition while Kittanna Thomas had the single goal for Alley.

The league continues with matches today and onwards, starting from 5pm.

SAP trounce Ghetto Youth in Jennings Community Football League

In the Jennings Ebernezer Community Sports Club (JECSC) football league,  Sap FC trounced opponents Ghetto Youth 5-0.Playing in the first of a double header on Tuesday, 14 August 2023, the premier league outfit enjoyed a comfortable win.

Tejano Jarvis got a hat-trick in the contest, Tyrique Tonge and Danny Martin added a goal each to finish off the onslaught.

Francois Joseph was the hero for the Boyz from Brazil after grabbing the lone goal and the winner against Jennings United in the feature game of the evening.

CFU 2023 GIRLS’ UNDER 14 MATCH SCHEDULE

The Caribbean Football Union has released the match schedule for the 2023 Girls’ Under 14 Challenge Series in Antigua & Barbuda from August 18 – 27, 2023. 

This year twenty (20) teams will participate in the highly anticipated tournament in the land of three hundred and sixty-five (365) beaches. The tournament will see the twenty teams divided into two tiers (Tier I & II) with 14 national teams from around the Caribbean competing in Tier II while six (6) teams will do battle in Tier I for the coveted Challenge Series trophy.

ANTIGUA TO HOST CFU GIRLS’ U-14 CHALLENGE SERIES

The Caribbean Football Union has announced that Antigua and Barbuda will host the 2023 Girls’ U-14 Challenge Series. The tournament runs from August 18-28, 2023.

The CFU Challenge Series is a developmental competition held alternatingly for girls and boys. The series is the introduction to international competition and exposure for players. It is also a pivotal component of the CFU’s Next Generation Referee Course. It affords regional match officials who possess the abilities to advance to the FIFA International Refereeing Lists technical and practical training. The series is also a breeding ground for match and venue coordinators.

The teams are divided in Tier I and Tier II and are grouped according to their ranking.

Haiti’s girls swept to victory in Tier I during the last edition in 2021. Aruba were undefeated in winning Tier II.

The CFU launched the Challenge Series in 2018, starting with a boys’ competition.

Girls born on or after January 1, 2009 are eligible to participate in the 2023 edition.

Cutting Edge and Wadadli to Challenge for Knock-Out Championship

Cutting Edge FC and Wadadli United will contest for the ABFA Knock-Out Championship this coming Thursday at the ABFA Technical Center.

Cutting Edge, coached by Vincent “Nabu” Samuel cemented their spot in the finals by defeating Ottos Tigres in their opening encounter 3-0. Goals from national youth players Ajahna Martin (2) and Jada Benjamin propelled them to the next encounter where they defeated All Saints United 2-1.

Myia Kirwan and Ajahna Martin where on the scoresheet verses the United ladies, National player Kevoncia James got the lone goal for All Saints.

Wadadli United were given a bye into the second round but had to work twice as hard to make it to the finals when they met Fort Road FC.

Fort Road defeated Trendsetters in their first match of the tournament. A lone goal from National midfielder Kai Jacobs did the trick on the night. Playing against Wadadli, Fort Road emerged as favorites but the resilients of Wadadli took them through.

Fort Road struck the back of the net in the first half when Keniece Brown finished off what was nothing short of a great individual play from young Allen to evader her markers form the off the right wing, cutting inside and laying it on a platter for Brown. They had Wadadli on the back foot with no plans of letting up.

National forward Gabrielle De Suza of United levelled the game with a little individual brilliance of her own, using her speed, she latched on to a through-pass and left who dared to contest in the dust as she sped towards goal, calmy slotting it away to level the score for her team.

Two 10-minute halves of extra time wasn’t enough to declare a winner and the game was decided in penalties. Wadadli showed nerves of steel from the spot, defeating Fort Road 4-2 to booked their place in the finals, much to the desire of their coach Devita Samuel.

The Championship game will be played on Thursday, 20th July at the Technical Centre at 6pm.

GOLDEN GROVE PRIMARY GRABS THREE-PEAT IN SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Golden Grove Primary School and head coach Karen Warner completed the THREE-PEAT after defeating TN kirnon at the Rising Sun Grounds today June 19th, 2023.
 
Golden Grove’s Robert Jeffery was awarded the most goal and MVP awards in the league.
Jeffery grabbed an impressive twenty-five goals in a total of ten (10) matches.

The TN Kirnon Primary, coached by Nekisha Samuel did well in their efforts to making it to the championship game.
